Goshikinuma Navigator!

"Goshikinuma" is a collection of ponds of different colors

The 1888 eruption of Mt. Bandai caused sediment to block the river, creating various lakes and ponds of various sizes, but the area where these small and medium-sized lakes and ponds converge is called "Goshikinuma." It is a mysterious pond whose colors change from blue to green to red due to the influence of different water qualities, the moss that grows there, and the microorganisms in the water.

Yanaginuma

This is the closest pond to our hotel. It is so quiet that the surrounding trees are reflected on the water's surface. In autumn, the view of the autumn leaves reflected on the lake's surface is a must-see.

↓15 minutes to the next swamp

Aonuma

The bright Aonuma pond glows a mysterious cobalt blue color when sunlight hits it, due to the green color of the moss growing on the bottom of the water.

↓1 minute to the next swamp

Rurinuma

It is a beautiful, clear blue lapis lazuli pond. The water that gives Goshikinuma its mysterious color flows into this pond first, and it never freezes, even in winter. When the water is calm, the upside-down image of Mount Bandai reflected on the surface of the water is a must-see.

↓5 minutes to the next swamp

Bentennuma

The pale blue color of the pond changes depending on the direction and strength of the sunlight, and even at the same time, the color seen from the east side is different from the color seen from the west side. It has a quiet and mysterious atmosphere, and you can see Mount Nishiazuma and Mount Adatara in the distance.

↓12 minutes to the next swamp

Tatsunuma

Tatsunuma is a swamp that is obscured by vegetation. You can see the mysterious emerald green swamp through the trees. In winter, the swamp reflects the snow, turning white, sometimes pale green, and in spring, it turns light blue.

Midoronuma

The western part of the pond is covered with colonies of pondweed, while the eastern part is covered with thickets of pondweed and has clear water. Even within a single pond, the color of the water changes depending on the light, depth, and aquatic plants.

↓12 minutes to the next swamp

Akanuma

The swamp was named "Akanuma" (Red Swamp) because the surrounding plants turn a rust-red color. The water is a pale green, but depending on the light it can appear brown.

Bishamonnuma

Goshikinuma is the largest lake in the area. Acidic mineral springs bubble up from the bottom of the lake, containing large amounts of sulfate and chloride ions, causing the water's surface to sparkle cobalt green. The view of Mount Bandai from a boat ride out onto the lake is a must-see. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants, and it serves as the base for one of the walking trails.
